Moving forward with 501c3, harvesting, and a field trip!

Topeka Common Ground has officially partnered with the Washburn Law Clinic to begin to work towards becoming a bona fide 501c3 non-profit organization. Our fearless leader Rosemary signed a retainer agreement and we are now gathering information to apply for incorporation in the state of Kansas. Our official name will be Topeka Common Ground, Inc. After this we will begin the lengthy and in-depth application for the IRS. Wish us luck!

Last Friday was sweet potato harvest day at the Chesney Park Gourds and Soil garden. And boy did we harvest! Here’s a picture of gardener extraordinaire Wendy with our delightful friends from TARC.

Also notice the two watermelons, and the tomatoes! What a wonderful day.

This Friday Rosemary, Wendy, and Cari will be headed on a field trip to the Kansas City Community Gardens. Their website is kccg.org. We’ve been working with various Girl Scout troops this past summer and one of them has invited us to come to KC with them. We’re very excited for this opportunity to see how a big time community gardening operation in the midwest works. I’ll keep you updated with stories and pictures!
